“And I don’t want the world to see me
Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am.”
-Goo Goo Dolls-
What makes a life worth writing about? From my perspective, by living, we have something to share with humanity that’s of value. Is sitting on the couch playing video games, watching TV, wallowing in our victimhood living? Well, that’s up to interpretation. I imagine we all wrestle with incredible adversity no matter how wealthy, unfortunate, driven, lost, intelligent or ignorant. I believe every human being who has lived has a story worth sharing.
I figure this is the best way to find my own voice and attempt to connect. It’s taken many years for me to understand the value of giving myself consideration. This is my way of considering myself. Some struggles may not be very relatable, but they are entertaining to say the least! You never know what can be a catalyst for growth and create revelation.
I’ve lived many lives and contradictions. I look at people that claim to have themselves, even life all figured out and I almost pity them. They are so closed off to possibility. Yet, I’m seeking the exact same thing. I want to know myself, I want to see truth…but neither is constant. Alexander Hamilton said, “Those who stand for nothing fall for everything”. Some would describe me this way. It’s not that I don’t hold any strong beliefs but I was born open to see things from different perspectives and this attribute, or weakness, is still strong in my nature.
Life has been grueling to navigate this way. Bouncing around, no firm ground to stand on. Christ’s love gave me something to grasp, something to stabilize my footing. Everything comes back to Love. No matter what religion or spiritual beliefs you hold, Love is everywhere and everything and the only absolute Truth I choose to succumb to.
How many times have you heard people say, “I’m just speaking the truth”? Well, there’s your truth, my truth, his truth, her truth, my dog’s truth and so on. Heck, even HIS truth can be taken in many different contexts. That’s why there are so many forms of Christianity and disagreements regarding the context in the Bible. I was
told once that I bled honesty. Bleeding honesty, to me, means being humble enough to admit we don’t know. It means being vulnerable and human. It’s messy and uncomfortable, but it’s as close to “real” as we can get.
